How to Convert Video for Android Phones

The video world has exploded over the last few years. Almost everyone can record a video anytime they see something spectacular. They can even record something ordinary and edit the video to make it spectacular. Of course, sometimes you might want to record ordinary things so you can preserve them in the video format and have them forever. Creating the video really is as easy as clicking the “record” button. However, it can become much more difficult when you try to watch your video on your phone, or send it to your friends and family to see. That is why you sometimes need the ability to convert video for Android phones.

In addition to creating videos on your phone, you can also make videos at home on your computer or tablet. The editing tools allow you to add music, adjust the look or speed of the video, or add text to your video. You can even get fancy and combine multiple videos together, edit out parts you don’t want included, or even add special effects to them.

However, you may be very disappointed when you’ve spent time creating your masterpiece, and then discover that when you try to show it off to people on your Android phone, it won’t work.

The problem is that Android phones only have the built in ability to play videos that are in a certain type of video format. If your video wasn’t created in the right format, your phone, or the phone of other Android users you send it to, won’t be able to play it.

You will likely get an error message that says “video file not supported”, or something similar. That simply means that your phone does not have the software support that it needs in order to play your video. If you still want to play your phone on your phone, you will need to learn how to convert video for Android. This is actually very easy to accomplish.

How to Convert Video for Android Phones

If you are contemplating adding a video to your Android phone, it is likely that you are at least somewhat comfortable using technology. However, even if you aren’t, the good news is that it is actually very easy to convert video for Android phones. In fact, if you have the ability to navigate on your computer and open a Word or Excel file, you have the ability to convert your video file.

The only thing you need to find if you want to convert video for Android is a good video converter. This type of tool will handle all of the “heavy lifting” for the conversion. All you need to do is tell it what video file you want converted, and tell is that you want the file converted to the Android format. The converter will do all the work and return to you a file that is in the type of format you can easily add to your Android phone.

If you use a video converter that can handle multiple types of conversions, you can also convert your video to a format that can be played on iPhones, iPads and even on Ninendo, Play Stations and Xboxes.

Frequently Asked Questions About e-Book Converters

When people were first introduced to e-books, things were quite simple. You purchased an e-reader, and then you purchased books so you could read them on that e-reader. Life is still that simple for some people, but for many others it has become much more complicated as the electronic world has expanded because of the need to convert your e-books from one type of file to another. If you are a regular e-book reader, here are some of the most frequently asked questions about e-book converters to help ease the potential confusion.

Why Are e-Book Converters Needed?

questions about e-book converters

When people ask questions about e-book converters, one of he first ones is why they are needed. The reason the e-book world became so complex is because of the number of options that are available to you in today’s world. In the past, you probably bought an Amazon Kindle or a Nook and read all your e-books on the device you bought it for.

However, since you purchased the e-reader, you probably also bought a new phone, a tablet and maybe even a more curent e-reader. The problem comes in when you want to read your e-books on a device other than the one it was purchased for. That is what causes most of the questions about e-book converters.

For example, if you purchase an e-book from Amazon for your Kindle, it will come as a specific type of file that your Kindle can handle. However, if you want to read your book on your phone or on your tablet, it may, or may not work. The device you are using to read the e-book must be able to read the type of file of your original book.

In the case of Kindle books, most other types of e-readers can handle those because the Kindle is one of the more popular formats. It makes sense for other e-readers to be able to accept those types of files. But there are simply too many different types of formats for all reading devices to be able to handle.

If you originally had a less popular type of e-reader, you may not be able to read the original books you purchased on a new device. However, if you convert the ebook file to one that can be handled by your new device, it will work again.

What Does an e-Book Converter Do?

The second of our questions about e-book converters is about what the converters actually do. As described above, the converter simply converts the behind the scene code of the e-book that is related to how the book is created. This conversion changes the file extension. It’s somewhat similar to the difference between a DOC file from Microsoft Word and an XLS file from Excel.

How to Convert an e-Book

Answers to some of the questions about e-book converters can be somewhat technical; however learning how to actually do it is much easier. The only difficult part is finding a good online e-book converter to use.

It is important to find an ebook converter that is easy to use and can convert your e-book to the type of file your new device needs. It’s a bonus if the file converter also has the ability to convert audio files, convert videos and convert documents. That way when you come across the need for those other types of document conversions, you will already have one ready to use. If you get one converter that handles all of those, you will never have to look for a new converter again!

Once you have a converter, it’s as easy as browsing on your computer to tell the conversion tool what file you want converted, and what time of file it needs to be converted to.

Now that we’ve answered these common questions about e-book converters, you should be able to handle just about any type of e-book file and convert it so it can be read on any type of e-reader you might have.

Windows Media Player File Types

If you use the Windows operating system on your computer, you have some version of Windows Media Player installed on it. In today’s world, many people install other types of software that will play music and videos, but there are still a lot of people who stick with the old-school WMP for their needs. In the current version of WMP, it can play many different types of audio formats. However, if you have an older version, you might need to know about Windows Media Player file types in order to get your audio to play.

Playing WMP Files on Other Systems

Since the Windows Media Player comes from the Microsoft library of products, the files it produces are generally accepted in other types of software and tools.  Audio files are typically created with the WMA file extension and video files use the WMV extension.

If you create an audio file in WMP and want to use it on other types of devices, in nearly all cases you will be able to do this without any problem. After all, other types of software and music systems would be crazy to not accept files created in something by Microsoft. That would be severely limiting the functionality of their device.

In the off chance that you run into this problem, you can simply use on online audio file converter to convert the Windows Media Player file types into the type of format that is needed. You will need to check with the service you are using to determine what types of file formats they accept.

Adding Other Files to WMP

However, if you are trying to add music from other places into Windows Media Player, there are a few more restrictions. Part of this is due to the fact that Windows simply can’t handle every single type of audio file that is available. Since every product or service gets to make their own choice about what type of file format they will use when they create audio files, it isn’t possible for WMP to have the capability to handle every possible option.

However, they do have the ability to handle most of the major types of audio files that are created, but there is a caveat. The list of Windows Media Player file types that can be handled depends upon which version of WMP you are using.

Windows Media Player File Types for Version 12

The most recent version of Windows Media Player is WMP 12.  The list of Windows Media Player file types that can be handed in 12 include the the following file extensions: MOV, M4A, MP4, M4V, MP4V, 3G2, 3GP2, 3PG, 3GPP, AAC, ADT, ADTS and M2TS. However, since these are recent players in the world of audio and video, older versions of Windows Media Player do NOT have the ability to handle those types of files.

Handling an Error

If you try to open a file in WMP and get an error related to the file type, it means that type of file extension is not supported. However, this doesn’t mean that you will not be able to play the music you want to listen to. It just means you will need to convert it.

Use a good online audio file converter and you can easily convert the file to a Windows Media Player file type that can be opened.

YouTube Video Format Error

It can be very disheartening to go through all the work to get a video ready to post to YouTube and then have it be rejected because it’s the wrong video format.  But the good news is this, if you get a YouTube video format error, it is typically something very easy to fix, and we’re going to show you how.

YouTube video format error

Getting the format error from YouTube can be scary if it’s the first time you’ve ever seen it. After all, you just had a great idea about a video you should post to YouTube and you have big plans for it. Then you carefully edited the video to be just the right length. Then you created a YouTube account, figured out what to title your video and thought you were ready to upload your video and share it with the world.

However, then you clicked the “upload” button and your dreams came crashing down. Instead of uploading your video, YouTube gave you an error that said “invalid file format”.  This can be very discouraging because it appears as though the video that you carefully selected will never get seen by the world.

Why You Get the YouTube Video Format Error

The reason you get this type of error is because there are dozens of different types of video formats and you have to upload something that can be handled by the YouTube system. It’s likely that if your video was created in one of the more common formats, you won’t have any problems. However, if your video was created in one of the lesser used video formats, it is more likely to cause you a problem.

Video Formats Accepted

Since there are so many different types of video formats, it is nearly impossible for any type of video uploading service to be able to handle all of them.  If you try to upload a video that is not supported, you will get the YouTube video format error.

Since YouTube is a major player in the video world, they can handle more types of video formats than other services. The following file extensions are accepted by YouTube: .MOV, .MPEG4, MP4 .AVI, .WMV, .MPE, GPS, .FLV, 3GPP, and WebM.  However, trying to upload any other type of video file will cause your video to be rejected.

How to Solve the Problem

When you receive the YouTube video format error when trying to upload a video, it can easily be fixed. All you need to do is change the type of file format for your video. While this may sound complicated, you can easily do it, even if you don’t have a lot of technical experience.

The first step is to find a good online document converter and make sure it has the ability to convert videos. Your best option is to use an online tool because then you don’t have to download any strange software to your computer.

Once you find the best video converter, simply follow the instructions. This typically only includes browsing through your file manager to identify the video you want converted. This is just as easy as opening a Word or Excel file.

Then you just need to tell the conversion tool what type of file to convert the video too. As long as you select a file format that is accepted by YouTube, you should then be able to upload the converted file to YouTube.

Now that you know how to handle the YouTube video format error, you can have the peace of mind to know that when you capture video of the perfect YouTube moment, you will be able to get it uploaded without any problems.

The Difference Between PPT and PPTX Files

All of the products in Microsoft Office products are wildly popular. Everyone knows about Word and Excel, but the reality is that Microsoft is also responsible for PowerPoint, which is a powerful presentation tool. If you’ve used it, at one point over the last several years, you likely wondered “what’s the difference between PPT and PPTX files?”

differences between ppt and pptx

If you work with presentations much, you have either used PowerPoint, or worked with someone on a project where they used PowerPoint.  PPT and PPTX are the file extensions used to identify files created in PowerPoint.

PowerPoint is a presentation tool that is included with the Microsoft Office suite of products. This is a tool that allows you to create a presentation that can be played on your computer, added to websites, or used for a presentation for a group of people. Once you save the presentation in either the PPT or PPTX format, it will run on it’s own, without the user having to manually move the presentation from one slide to the next.

Knowing the difference between PPT and PPTX files first became an issue in 2007.  Before that point, all the PowerPoint programs saved the presentations in the PPT format. While most other types of presentation tools could integrate with PowerPoint, there were some of the smaller ones that did not. If that was the case, you would have had to use an online converter in order to convert your presentation into something that could be used.

Starting with the Office products released in 2007, Microsoft changed the default setting for saving the presentations that were created in the tool. They switched from the then standard of PPT to PPTX. The “X” in the file format stands for “XML”.

The main difference between PPT and PPTX files is the fact that the XML version are considered “open source”.  This means that it is much easier for other types of presentation programs to open files saved in the PPTX format.

This change was also made in both the Word and Excel programs and were aimed at giving all of the programs the ability to work more seamlessly with other types of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation tools.

Even with the differences between PPT and PPTX, you should still be able to save your file as either option, but the problem could come when you try to open that file in a different type of software. If someone else tries to open the presentation on a computer that doesn’t have PowerPoint, they could also have a problem.  If that computer can handle either type of PPT file, the presentation should open with no problem.

However, if you, or someone you are working with, has an older Office program, you can sometimes have problems opening files created by the newer programs. In a perfect world, you could upload something that allows your system to work with either type of file, but this doesn’t always work.

There may be times when you simply have to convert your presentation to whichever type of PPT file your system has the ability to open.

When looking at the difference between PPT and PPTX files, there are also a few other minor differences regarding the size of the files. However, the difference between PPT and PPTX files that causes the most problems is the file extension used.  However, we’ve just solved that, so it should no longer be a problem for you!

Why Do You Need to Convert to RTF

While Microsoft Word is the most popular type of word processing software, that does not mean that it is not without its problems. A few of those problems are the exact reason you need to know how to convert to RTF when you’re working with word processing documents.

What is RTF?

RTF is a type of word processing format.  The RTF format (Rich Text Format) was first developed by Microsoft in 1987. It was developed as a cross-platform document exchange. This means that the file format was specifically created to easily move from one platform to the other. This is exactly what makes the RTF format so powerful and useful.

One thing that sets RTF apart from some the other types of word processing formats is that when you look at the behind the scenes coding for the page, RTF files are easily read by humans. By contrast, if you viewed the same file in Microsoft Word, the characters that are added in order to handle all of the formatting requests are so cumbersome that you would find it very difficult to read the file. The simplicity of the coding of RTF is exactly what makes it so useful, it’s lack of complexity make it nearly universally accepted.

Why You Need to Convert to RTF

One of the biggest reasons you need to know how to convert to RTF is that different types of word processors only have the ability to read certain types of word processing formats.  Microsoft Word is the most popular, so most other types of software have the ability to read those files, but not all. And if you are using one of the less popular software packages, you are likely to have even more problems with some of the files you want to open.

If you have a type of document file that your computer does not have the ability to open, you may have to convert it to a different document type. Converting documents from one type to another is actually very easy, but a problem can arise when you don’t know what type of file to convert to your document to. The good news is that because of its universal nature, if you convert to RTF, your system should always be able to read the file.

The other big reason you may need to convert to RTF is this if your Word (or other software) is having problems with corruption. In some cases, Word has so many hidden characters in the document that it causes problems. In fact, sometimes Word won’t even be able to save the document because of one of these errors. In this case, if you convert to RTF, you will retain the word processing formatting and be able to save your document.

How to Convert to RTF

Once you’ve made convert to RTFthe decision to convert to RTF, you need to find an online RTF document converter. There are many different kinds of these, but the best converter is one that is online (so you don’t have to install anything on your computer), free, and offers you the flexibility to also convert audio, video and image files.

Once you find the converter, you simply have to tell the conversion tool which file you want it to convert for you. This is usually done by using the same procedure you use to select a word processing or spreadsheet document. On our system, the button that says “Choose Files” is used for this purpose.

Once you select the file, you simply have to tell the conversion tool that you want to convert to RTF. Then you will be given a link to download the converted file.

Each eBook is created in a specific type of file and can only be read on the devices that have the technology to open them.

When you’re working with word processing documents, the most common type of file is a .DOC. This is because that document type is created by Microsoft Word, which is the most popular type of word processing software.  Since other types of software want you to use their software, they usually also give you the ability to open DOC files because it’s good for their business to allow their users to interact with Microsoft products.

However, if your software can’t open the DOC document type, you simply have to use an online document converter to change the document type. eBooks are the same.

Why You Need an eBook Converter

Since there are now dozens of eReaders on the market, that means there are dozens of different types of eBook files. Because of this, the chance that at some point you will want to read one of your eBooks on a device that can’t open it is relatively high. This is why it’s necessary to learn how to convert eBooks.

You may also need to convert eBooks to a different format because you need it to become a PDF file, or a Word document.  Other people may need to convert eBooks because they’ve changed devices and their new device doesn’t have the same capability as their old one.

How eBook Converters Work

The hardest part of converting eBooks isn’t the conversion process, it’s finding the right converter.  There are a lot of things to consider before you decide what type of document converter to use. Some of those items are to review what features are available, whether the features you need are available, whether to use a desktop converter or an online converter, and of course, they must have the ability to handle the specific type of conversion you need.

How to Convert eBooks

Once you find the tools you’re going to use to convert eBooks to a different type of file, the hard part is out of the way. At that point, it’s just a matter of completing the steps in the conversion tool.

Most tools offer you a simple browse method of selecting your file. This means you will simply use your computer file manager to select the specific eBook file you want to have converted. This is done in the same manner as selecting a Word or Excel file to open.

Once you select the file, you will just need to tell your conversion tool how you want the eBook file converted. After you select the type of file you need, the tool should then convert your eBook. You should either receive an email that includes the new file, or a link on the website page that will allow you to download your converted eBook.

Now that you know how to convert eBooks, you should be able to read any of your eBooks on any device you have!

The Online vs Desktop Document Converter Debate

It shouldn’t be of any surprise that more and more people are active in the online world than ever before.  Unfortunately, that means that more of those people who are online are experiencing problems and some of those problems are related to not being able to open documents. Online vs Desktop Document ConverterThe answer is easy, you need to convert the file. What is not so easy is the online vs desktop document converter debate. Which one is better?

All those people online are surfing the net, but they’re also downloading documents, creating and submitting documents online sites and sending stuff they’ve created to their friends and family. All this activity is great, but it means that more people are having problems with opening some of the files they’re now working with, so more people need something to convert their files.

The problem is that your laptop, iPad or mobile device comes with the tools and software to open SOME types of document, video or image files, but not all of them. The differences you will find relate to the specific features of the tool you select, and those features aren’t limited to one type of converter or the other.

Desktop Document Converter

As part of the online vs desktop document converter issue, let’s look at the desktop options first.

One of the biggest benefits to using an online converter is that after you get it set up, it’s on your computer and you don’t need to have internet access in order to use it. If you are mobile and might need your documents in places that aren’t WiFi connected, this might be your best option.

Some people feel like the desktop versions are more secure because you don’t have to give up control of the document you want converted. However what is sometimes missed in this discussion is that in order to use a desktop document converter, you must download that software onto your computer. This is a much bigger potential risk.

Not only are you downloading software onto your computer that you don’t know if it can be trusted, but you also run the risk that the software will have a bad interaction with other programs on your computer or device.

Online Converter

Generally, it’s usually a lot easier to use an online document converter. You don’ have the security issues to deal with that we discussed above, and you also don’t have to go through the trouble of downloading and setting up the software.

However, it is important to remember that you should only use the online document converter when you know that you will have internet access when you need to convert your documents, videos or images.

How to Transfer iTunes Music to Android Devices

In the technology world we all now live in, most things are getting better at “talking with each other”. At least this is true for the major players in most areas.

transfer iTunes music to android

Unfortunately, when you need to transfer iTunes music to android devices, it doesn’t necessarily work that way.

Why it’s So Difficult

For example, everyone knows that Microsoft Office is one of the major players in the word processing and spreadsheet worlds, so when they create a new piece of software that handle either of those two functions, they make sure that their software is compatible with both Microsoft Word and Excel. It only makes sense to make it easy for people to go back and forth between your software and some of the other popular options people use.

However, that is not the case with some Apple products, including iTunes. They have made the specific choice to NOT make it easy to transfer music and other types of files that you keep on iTunes to other types of non-Apple devices.

This is done because they want you to make a decision, and they hope and assume that if you have to choose between iTunes and other options, you will choose iTunes.

In the beginning, this wasn’t really an issue because people who used Apple products, always used iTunes to store their music. However as time has gone on, people have become a little less reliant on a single operating system. There are more quality cell phone options available and many other types of devices that have made people less reliant on a single system.

This new multi-device phenomenon means that there are now many more choices available if you want to transfer iTunes music to android devices.

How to Manually Transfer iTunes Music to Android

There are several methods you can use to transfer iTunes music to android if you know what kind of a cloud player or music streaming service you want to use. But if you don’t know those things, or you just want to do a straight transfer to your android device, the best option is to do a direct transfer.

The oldest method to transfer iTunes music to android doesn’t involve any complicated software or downloads. You just need a simple micro USB cable that can connect the device that shows your iTunes library to the android device you want to transfer your music to.

If your main device is a Mac, you may need the app called Android File Transfer installed, but that is very easy to do.

Once you have the two devices connected, you simply need to navigate to the location of your music. On a Windows device, you should start your search under My Music / iTunes. If you are on a Mac, you should look under Music / iTunes / iTunes Media.

From that point, it’s just a matter of using the drag-and-drop process to move your music between the devices.

When this is complete, your music should all be available to play on your android device, but you may have trouble with a few of the files because of their file types. In some cases, you may need to convert your music files to something that can be read by your android.

This could be because there were files in your iTunes account that were specific file types that your android device doesn’t have the ability to handle. The good news is that it’s very easy to convert your music files when you have a good online music converter.
