Tips For Selling Your Ebook

One of the great things about the technological breakthroughs we have experienced in the last decade is the many opportunities created. The invention of ebooks has been one of those doors opened for writers. Before ebooks, it was very hard for writers to be able to have their work published. Now, anyone can easily create an ebook and sell it. But if you are new to the ebook industry, there are many things to learn. That means how do you go about selling it and getting it out there for people to see it, buy it and read it. Here are some great tips for selling your ebook which can help you do it.

Make Your Cover Great –

We have all heard the quote to never judge a book by its cover. However, when it comes to your book being sold, it does not apply. On the contrary, not having a great ebook cover page can end up costing you. A lot of ebooks never end up selling or generating buzz due to their bland covers. Writers need to keep in mind that the cover is most often the first thing a person sees. Take time and invest in getting an excellent and great ebook cover.

Give Out Free Copies

While you may find this approach hard to understand since you are looking to ‘sell’ your ebook, it works. However, one of the best ways for new authors to make it is by giving away free copies. For one, it will allow people to see just how good your work is. Secondly, you will generate buzz for your it as well. Giving away something for free is the best way to produce word of mouth. If you give out 30 free copies to your friends, it can do several things for you. For one, you can see if your writing is good enough by the feedback. Also, if you are good, you will have those people send the ebook to their friends. Before long, as more readers continue to share your ebook, it will increase your readership, following and recognition. You can do a limited time offer from 30 to 90 days. By the time you get to your second or third ebook, it will make selling it much more easier and faster.

Blog It Online –

The internet is the best thing to have happen to ebook authors and entrepreneurs. It gives them a platform to showcase whatever they are selling. You can write articles about your ebook and blog it on websites. You can also offer excerpts of your ebook on sites and blog communities catering to this genre. Posting articles will also give you name recognition and advertising. You will also improve your reputation and gain followers too. Keep in mind that doing this will not offer instant results. This process takes some time to work, but if done right, it does.

Use Multiple eBook Stores –

Most people know about the top selling ebook stores such as Amazon, Apple and B&N. However, getting your ebook there can be difficult when you are just starting out. But there are many other smaller ebook stores out there. Using them can boost your sales significantly. The more places you use to promote your book, the higher your chances to sell it will become.

Make Sure The Price Is Right –

Too many new authors make the mistake of wanting to get rich from their first ebook. They end up offering their book at a high price. While most ebooks on Amazon are sold at around $9.99, that doesn’t mean yours will sell for that price. Keep in mind that these are established and well known authors. Many new ebook writers offer their ebooks at $0.99 to start. While it may not make you a lot of money at first, it will get your work out there for the next book.

Other Tips To Consider –

Some other great tips to consider is partnering with ebook blogs and websites. These are sites dedicated to ebook junkies. Since there are so many ebook readers out there, this community is very powerful. You can quickly get your ebook out there. Other people join affiliate programs to sell their ebook online as well. Authors can also use social media outlets to promote and share their ebook. Some ebook writers subsidize their work with a cosponsor as well. They can end up promoting your ebook for you. Lastly, you can do paid advertising and pay for book reviews. Having just one great review can end up giving you some credibility and recognition.

How To Log Out Of Several Websites All At Once

Website

Do you know the feeling? You are in a hurry to leave the computer so you just close the browser regardless of which tabs were still open – and which services you were still logged in on! Especially if you share your computer with someone else or let someone else use it, this can enable them to (accidentally) go online with your profile.

This can be avoided. Yes, there is a quick and convenient way to log out of several accounts at the same time!

How To Log Out Of Several Websites All At Once

It is very easy and it requires only one step: visiting SuperLogout.com.

But be careful! There is a reason we did NOT link the URL above!

Once you visited the page, you are automatically logged out of all services supported by the website. No, there is no additional warning you are simply logged out of them. With this said, here is the link: SuperLogout.com

Super Logout is a free service that will simply search the sites it supports for the logout button and do the work for you. This, of course, means that you will have to log in when you want to visit and use one of the websites again, so make sure to remember your login data such as e-mail addresses, usernames and passwords.

SuperLogout

Once opening the page, it will log you out of your accounts. All accounts you have been successfully logged out of are marked with a green OK. Since there is no stop or pause button, the only way to stop this very fast process is to close the tab or window again.

What Websites Are Supported?

Unfortunately, this service does not work for all websites and social media channels. Facebook, for example, is not supported which means that you will have to logout there manually if you plan on letting someone else on your computer.

However, the number of websites supported is already quite big. We have listed them all below in alphabetical order for your convenience:

  • Amazon
  • AOL
  • Blogger
  • Delicious
  • DeviantArt
  • DreamHost
  • Dropbox
  • eBay
  • Gandi
  • GitHub

  • SoundCloud
  • ThinkGeek
  • Threadless

  • YouTube

Unfortunately, this excludes services like Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest.

Why The Web Has So Many Different Image Formats

Online Convert - Why The Web Has So Many Different Image Formats

When it comes to image formats available on the Internet, there is no shortage of them.

But just why are there so many different types of image formats available on the Internet today? Although the majority of people mostly recognize and use GIF or JPEG files, they are not the only ones available. In fact, there are more than 12. But why are there so many in the first place?

Things Have Changed

Not long ago, when people wanted to print something on paper, there were only the typical choices to make. That was the size, quality and matte finish of the paper, among others. Those choices largely depended on the project and the amount of time and money you were willing to spend. These days though, those things have changed dramatically. Now, with technology advancing so much, our choices have changed and continue to do so. File compression and conversion, along with a few other factors, have contributed to those changes. People have more choices because they have greater access to the Internet. In addition, they also have more different choices and devices from where to gain access to the web. That, coupled with a few other factors, is what has led to there being such a vast amount of images formats available.

Patents, Technical And Other

Some of the image formats which have been created the past few years, have been due to patents, technical and a few other factors. Many scanners, printers and cameras manufacturers refused to use a competitor’s format on their devices. In turn, they ended up creating their own kind of format. From the technical perspective side of it, those choices come down to the various issues. Factors such as compression, speed of processing the images and file size came into play. In addition, how you wanted to share or intended to use the images was also an issue.

All About The Space

Since many websites use certain image formats to save space and bandwidth, different types of files are used. The most widely used on sites are JPG (JPEG) or GIF images. These are done to save space. For someone who has only a few images to store or send, then it is not an issue. However, many sites have thousands, if not millions, of images stored and available for visitors. Imagine the amount of space needed if those formats were not available or used. These compressed images save users tons of space.

Change Image Formats Easily

Presently, there are about 12 different types of image formats. They are

JPG – JPEG

BMP

EPS

GIF

ICO

HDR/EXR

PNG

SVG

TGA

TIFF

WBMP

WebP

But what happens when you have a certain type of image and you cannot open it with the program, software or device you own? The answer is simply to convert that file into the format you need. While there are programs and websites which do this for you for a price or by asking for something in return, Online Convert does not. Instagram is a great way to share photos and videos with your friends and other fans of your life, clothes, lifestyle or the great photos you take. And of course, others do that to! If you stumble across a great picture or video on your feed, you can admire it, like it, comment, or even send it forward to other Instagram users. But that’s about all you can do when it comes to sharing Instagram posts with other people.

But what if you want to share someone’s posts with your Facebook friends? Or save the image or video on your phone?

Usually, you would have to install yet another app to download and save photos and videos from Instagram. Do you really want that? Packing your phone with even more apps that, in most cases, also add features you don’t want or need or even ads? Also, if you are looking at Instagram profiles on a computer, taking a screenshot and cropping the image can become tedious as well. Let alone that you’d need a screen recorder to save the videos and even have to edit them afterwards to fit.

Luckily, there is a way easier way that doesn’t require any download, installation or payment!

12 Things To Do To Avoid Messing Up Your Computer

12 Things To Do To Avoid Messing Up Your Computer

The vast majority of us spend a large part of our time on a computer. Whether it’s at work, home or anywhere else. The truth is that computers have become a very important part of our lives. They make our lives and jobs easier to manage and enjoy. However,  in many cases, a lot of us end up doing things that can end up damaging our computers. But just what are those things.? Also, how can you make sure you don’t do let it happen to you.? Here are 12 things to to do to avoid messing up your computer.

  1. Not Using An Antivirus

The worst mistake anyone with a computer or laptop can make, is using them without any antivirus or anti-spyware program. In fact, you can say the same about those that use a tablet or even their smartphones. The truth is that these days, hackers are growing smarter and more mischievous each day. Using a computer without an antivirus program leaves you, your computer and your personal information vulnerable. You can equate using a PC or computer without an antivirus as someone using a house without a front door or a lock on it. Antivirus programs can easily detect harmful websites and other files. If you cannot afford one, you can get one such as Avast or ZoneAlarm, for free.

Don’t miss reading Why You Should Always Backup Your Computer Files

  1. Surfing The Net Without A Firewall

In the same manner that using your computer without an antivirus is not recommended, so is not having a firewall. A firewall goes a step beyond an antivirus. Its main purpose is keeping hackers out or blocking unauthorized access to your computer. Many harmful websites out there will send pings to your PC the minute you visit them. The same goes for phishing or harmful emails. Once they see that you do not have a firewall, their next step is to move in and steal your personal information. In some cases, they may even highjack your device. You can get a free version of a firewall, just in case.

  1. No Surge Protection

Nothing can physically destroy your computer faster than not using a surge protector. It will also end up destroying your data as well. Surge protectors are not just useful during electrical storms. They can actually help with issues that interrupt the electrical circuits. Using another appliance on the same circuit may cause a surge. There are several other things that can do it as well. You probably spent a great deal of money on purchasing your device. In addition, your work and files are priceless. Isn’t it worth it to spend a few extra bucks to safeguard them with a surge protector?

  1. Not Backing Up Your Data

When it came to backing up their data, people had countless of excuses as to why they were not doing them. However, in the days of so many cloud services, massive external hard drives available and other options, there are no excuses. You should be backing up your data all the time. You should be doing it continuously. The truth is that the most important thing on your device is your data! Many people wait until their computer breaks down to regret not doing so. Do not wait until it is too late and backup your data now.

  1. Not Updating Your Protection Programs

So you are very smart and have an anti-spyware or antivirus program on your PC. Perhaps you have both. You may even have the triple crown and also have a firewall. What you don’t have though, is the latest updates on all of them. Some people don’t bother to update any of their protection programs on their device. But that is a colossal mistake. New virus and threats are created every single day. Although you have a good anti-virus program running, it means nothing without an update. If a new virus is not known to your software program, how can it know to block it? Make sure you update your programs continuously and frequently.

  1. Installing Programs

We all like to try out the latest new programs out there. Some people even go a step further and download programs on beta phases. However, not all free programs are helpful or good for your computer. That is why they are free! In many instances, a lot of programs you find free on the internet actually can end up costing you. Some contain malicious codes. Others are so poorly created or written that can end up crashing your system. Be sure that any program you install is fully licensed and in final release phases. Remember, some programs will not be completely removed even after you delete them.

  1. Run System Tools

The same way your vehicle needs regular check-ups and tuneups, so does your computer. It is very important to take advantage of using the system tools found on your PC. These include ‘Disk Clean-up’ and Disk Defragmentation.’ These programs help to clean up cookies and temp files left behind. Also, defragmentation helps to free up space and speeds up your computer.

  1. Use Utility Tools

If you surf are constantly surfing the internet (like most of us) then you need to use utility tools. Each page you visit, every file you download, leaves behind a trace. These temp files can add up and slow your computer down dramatically. They can also take up a lot of space. Just like Disk Clean-up and Defragmentation, they are very useful. In addition to helping you remove temp files, they will also clean unwanted files. The place where many malicious programs and code tend to reside is in temporary files. A great tool to use is CCleaner. In addition to cleaning temporary files, it also removes invalid Windows Registry entries.

  1. Update Programs And OS

Not keeping your operating system or programs up to date can cost you. For one, it can leave your device vulnerable to virus and other hacks. Secondly, it can cause instability and system crashes. They call these updates ‘patches’ for a reason. That’s because they often patch something that was wrong in the original or old version. Make sure you have the latest update on all your programs (especially browsers) and OS.

  1. Using Easy Passwords

Although a lot of us love to use easy to remember passwords such as our names, they can spell trouble. Hackers love people who make the mistake of using names, dates and words that are easy to decipher. Having a strong password can make it harder for them to hack your system and personal info. There are many programs out there specifically meant to crack passwords. If yours is an easy one, then chances are it will be cracked and hacked easier than a strong one.

  1. Opening Emails And Attachments

Most of us receive thousands of emails every month. The vast majority of them are spam or unwanted. However, spammers are getting smarter and craftier each day. Many emails are now sent in forms of legitimate and official looking emails. They can appear to be from a bank or credit card company. A lot of them will also look as if they come from someone you know as well. Those emails often contain attachments or links. These will send you to a place which can steal your info or give you a malicious code. Also, attachments can end up being a Trojan or virus. If you don’t know who the email is from, and it contains an attachment, do not open it.

  1. Downloading Files

Everyone loves freebies. The Internet is full of free programs, software and files. Some people looking to save money, will use P2P or Torrent sites to search for freebies. Whether it comes via a song or video, there are many out there. However, there are many things you need to be weary of when downloading these free files. Hackers are known to insert Trojans and malicious codes into them. Once you install them into your system, your computer may never recover. Be sure to run all files, programs or software by your antivirus program first. Only download and open files from trusted sources. Lastly, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

FAQ – About Online Hash & Checksum Creation

Hash FAQ
Original image from http://bit.ly/1OPEVCL

Online-Convert.com is a free online conversion tool. You can convert many different files to more common formats, including audio, video, e-book, document, images and more. You can even convert across categories like text to speech or presentation to video.

However, that is not all you can do on Online-Convert.com! As an additional feature you can create checksums and hashes using different algorithms.

Since we get quite some questions about our hash creation, we decided to create this frequently asked questions (FAQ) entry for you.

Hash Generation FAQs

What Is The Difference: Encoding, Encryption & Hashing

In the past we have written a long and informative article about the difference between these three. You can re-read it here or check out the small summary below:

Encoding, Encryption, and Hashing

Encoding Encryption Hashing
Data Security Not secure Secure Secure
Reversibility Reversible Reversible Not Reversible

Looking at the table above, the difference between the three systems becomes very apparent.

  • Encoding should not be used to secure data since the data is easily decoded. As soon as the encoding system is known, the data can be decoded using the very same system.
  • Encryption, however, can be used for securing data since it can only be de-crypted with a respective key, even when the encryption method is known.
  • Hashing is also a safe method to secure data. However, once hashed the data can not be reversed to its original form again.

What Do I Need A Hash Generator For?

Hashes and checksums are used to create a string of characters out of different data entries. This way, sensitive data can be secured. Furthermore, hashes change their form once the input is altered. These two basic functions can be used for several purposes like:

  • Searching in a big database
  • Checking downloads & sent/transmitted data
  • Comparing passwords without saving the actual password
  • Detecting duplicate content or alterations in general

Detailed descriptions of the usages mentioned above can be found here:

Checksum & Hash – What are they and what do I need them for?

What Algorithm Should I Choose?

Online-Convert.com provides a big list of different hashing algorithms and encryption ciphers you can choose from. Of course it is not an exhaustive list, but it provides a good selection of different systems.

Since listing the pros and cons as well as the advantages of each algorithm or cipher would exceed the span of this article, have a look at this separate article about the advantages and functions of different hash generators:

Different Hash Functions and their Advantages

How Do I Create A Hash/Checksum?

Once you decided on your method, you can start creating checksums from your data. With Online-Convert.com, this is fairly easy.

OC_Hashing

There are four main methods of providing data you want to have hashed or encrypted:

  1. Paste text you wish to convert into a hash or checksum
  2. Upload a file
  3. Enter the URL to a file or website you want to generate a hash from
  4. Choose a file from a cloud service like Dropbox and Google Drive

Afterwards, click on convert file and wait a little until the checksum is created.

OC_Hashing02

What Else Is There To Know?

As you have probably seen above, there are also optional settings available for the hash generation. Lets have a look at them.

HMAC Hashes:

Some hashes have been generated using a keyed-hash message authentication code (HMAC). In order to provide a correct hash for comparison, the HMAC of the original hashing should be entered.

This is available for the following methods:

Adler32, CRC, Gost, Haval, MD4, MD5, RIPEMD, SHA, Snefru, Tiger, Whirlpool

Salt:

A salt can be used for hash generation to extra-secure the hashes. When added, the salt provides additional security against dictionary and rainbow table attacks.

This is available for:

Blowfish, htpasswd Apache

Rounds:

Some hash functions are able to generate hashes using different rounds. The hashes differ depending on the number of rounds used for the generation. The default value, using Online-Convert.com is 3 rounds, but you can choose 4 or sometimes even 5 rounds as well.

This is available for:

Haval, Tiger

How MP3 Files And Compression Works

Moving Picture Experts Group - Online Convert

If there is one file format which is universally recognized or widely used more than any other, it is MP3. Of course JPG is also very popular worldwide as well. Still, as far as audio files are concerned, MP3’s are the way to go. The fact is that the mp3 format has changed the music industry altogether in many ways. Combined with the internet, mp3 files allow people all over the world to share them. But just how do mp3 files and compression work?

All About MP3’s

Before we delve into how mp3 files and compression works, we must first explain what an mp3 file is. Before the mp3 file format came along, there were only a few options for listening to music or sharing it. Most of us got our music from radio stations, records, cassette tapes and so on. As far as being able to share music though, CD’s were the way it was mostly done. For the most part, everyone had to listen, rip and share music via the compact disc (CD) format. The problem with CD’s though, is that one of them stores about 10 million bytes (megabytes) of data. That is per minute on a the compact disc. This means  that a 3-minute song from a CD, would require an astounding 30 megabytes of data. When it comes to file size, it is huge and explains how mp3’s changed that for the better. Since mp3’s can compress a song and still retain more than half of the CD quality, the differences are huge. That same 30-megabyte 3-minute file, is reduced to a mere 3 megabytes in an mp3 format. So in essence, an mp3 is just a large file compressed into a very smaller one. This enables digital transmission and storage.

Don’t miss reading about The Differences Between Lossless And Lossy Compression

The Compression Process

MP3 file compression allowed users all over the world to more easily obtain and share music easier and faster. A 3-minute CD song that would have normally taken a person at least 2 hours to download before, can now be done in seconds due to compression and mp3 files. That stat is based on 56k dial-up modem of course. Still, a CD-quality song can now be compressed by a factor of 10 to 14 because of an mp3 file. This means that a song of about 32-megabytes on a CD, is compressed to only 3 MB in mp3 format. Of course, depending on the format compression you use, will largely determine exactly how much song quality is lost. Nevertheless, it is quite clear that without mp3 files, downloading, uploading and sharing songs would be completely different. Perhaps, in many places of the world, even impossible due to lack of high internet speeds.

Not All MP3’s Are Created Equal

Since mp3 uses algorithms that remove certain details to compress the files, the sound quality may not always be great. The fact is that not all mp3’s are created (or compressed) equally. Some people, in an attempt to make the files as small as possible lose a lot of the original sound quality. This is called the lossy format. However, there are now many programs, software and websites which allow you to change and convert the format of your files better than before. Our Convert audio to MP3 here at Online Convert, is a prime example. In this page, you can easily upload or enter the URL of any file you want to convert to an mp3 format. In addition, you also have many options to change such as audio bitrate and sampling rate. Best of all, you can do it for free and in a few simple steps.

How To Find The Best Audio Conversion Tool

Audio Converter

There are several reasons of why you might need a good audio converter. Extracting audio from a video or turning a written text into audio are just two examples. Oftentimes, it’s simply because you have your music stored in a file format that your playing device or software does not recognize.

In these cases, you need a trusty audio converter that makes you you are getting exactly the file you need!

There are several programs you can download to your computer to convert audio files, as well as some few online services that offer audio conversion as well. To find the best one for your needs, we have gathered what you should take into consideration when choosing your methods and service of choice.

Find The Best Audio Converter For Your Purpose

The following questions should be taken into consideration before you install anything on your computer or before you take the time to add an app to your phone for a simple audio file conversion.

Many conversion programs, services and apps offer relatively similar features and mechanics. This means that the perfect one for you is out there as well! In order to find it, check each program and tool for its features and how they can meet your needs.

What audio files are supported?

There are many different audio formats out there. They all come with different specifications and serve different purposes. If you want to find out which format would be the best one for you, check out our blog post about which audio format to use.

Not all audio formats are supported by all audio converters. If you have an exotic file that is lesser known or common, it might be that some programs are not able to convert it. Likewise, you have to check what formats your file can be converted to. Some software only allow conversion to MP3. This is, of course, of no use when you need a lossless format like FLAC.

How efficient is the audio converter?

Most of the time, it’s not easy to say if something is efficient before you actually tried it. Yet, of course you want the best and most efficient tool for yourself. But do you want to go through several programs before you find it? Surely not. Thankfully, there are some clues to look for.

It’s safe to assume that the best developed and thus possibly also most efficient tool comes with many and unique features. An app or software program that can be used for a number of purposes instead of one is in the most cases more reliable and thus more competent.

How easy is the tool to use?

If you need a couple of audio files converted, you don’t want to spend hours on trying to find out how the program works, right? Of course you don’t. And why should you.

It’s normal that programs that offer more functions than just a simple conversion take a bit longer to understand, yet the simplicity of usage should be taken into consideration as well if you are choosing an audio converter program. Choose a program with clear instructions and an easy-to-follow workflow.

Any special system requirements?

An audio conversion program can be as good as it wants to be, if you are not able to use it on your device of choice, it’s worth nothing. Thus, the system requirements of the software is important.

Many program downloads are offered as versions for both Windows and Apple Mac. Likewise, you can find compatible audio converters in the app stores for Android and iOS. Yet, that’s not where it ends. Make sure to check thoroughly what the program you are about to download needs to run smoothly on your device. Otherwise, you lose a lot time and nerves on downloading, installing, de-installing and searching anew.

How much does an audio conversion cost me?

Of course, the price of a program is something many of us have an eye on. It’s normal that paid programs offer more than free downloads can. Value comes with a price. However, it is your decision if you need a professional tool with additional and maybe even exclusive features… Or if a simple converter is enough for you.

Most of our lives happen online today. We search for things, get advice, offer or buy things, pay, order, talk, share… The advantages lie at hand: you don’t have to leave the house to buy something anymore. Everything is accessible from anywhere as long as you have access to the internet.

The downsides are evident as well, and we will neither discuss them nor raise the moral finger. Instead, we will show you how you can see what Google knows about you!

What Does Google Know About Me?

To properly view what Google knows about you, of course you have to log into your Google account.

Search history – https://myactivity.google.com/myactivity

When you use Google for your internet search, of course they save your search history. Depending on your browser settings, the link above will lead you to your search history.

YouTube has a separate search history you can look up here: https://www.youtube.com/feed/history/search_history

Furthermore, YouTube provides a history of videos you watched as well: https://www.youtube.com/feed/history

Ads settings – http://www.google.com/settings/ads

Google has an idea about your interests. This is important for them to display ads that cater to your interests and likes. Find out what Google thinks you like by checking (and editing) your Google Ads setting.

Many pages and websites use Google Analytics to gather information about their users and visitors. If you don’t wish your information to be referred to them, you can opt out by following the link above. That way, other websites won’t be able to collect data about you using Google Analytics.

You log in to external services using your Google account? Here you can get an overview of the services you use via your Google profile, and of course you can remove them from here as well and revoke access.

Don’t want to click through all those links to check what Google knows about you? Then export all your data. Bookmarks, contacts, files on Google Dive, photos, e-mails, notes – all you saved using your Google account can be exported to ZIP (or another archive format).

Where Else Can Google Get Information About Me?

When you use Google’s services, you might be aware that your data is collected by them. But did you know that Google owns more than 150 companies as well? From all those, they gather information about you as well. Here are some of the better known ones:
